Our Story

Casa Negra began in the San Fernando Valley in 2020, in the space between a global pause and

a reckoning — when it became clear that the things worth making are the things that feel like home.

Veronica and Mayra had known each other for over three decades before the first candle was poured.

The friendship came first. The brand followed. Each scent they developed was a way of holding something — memory, place,

lineage — in wax and fragrance, in a vessel matte and black as the name they chose for themselves.

The Why Behind Casa Negra

The Why Black is a color that has carried weight — in culture, in history, in any space. Casa Negra

was built on a different claim: that black is beautiful. That it belongs in the most refined spaces. That it can hold

memory and warmth and legacy without apology. Every candle in the collection carries a black note — Black

Dahlia, Black Cactus Blossom, Black Iris. It is a deliberate signature. A quiet insistence.

"A candle can shift the air in a room. It can hold a feeling you didn't know you were carrying. We built Casa Negra so that the scent of home could travel with you — wherever that is."

— Veronica & Mayra

Casa Negra is not just a candle brand. It's an invitation.

To slow down.

To be present.

To create space that feels like home.

Veronica Alcaraz-Saucedo

Veronica Alcaraz-Saucedo

Founder & President

Veronica Alcaraz-Saucedo — Founder & President. Veronica served in the U.S. Army Reserves, studied at UCLA and Pepperdine, and built her career across real estate, hospitality, and food manufacturing before co-founding Casa Negra. She brings a founder's discipline and a soldier's precision to everything the brand makes — and a belief that the home is a place worth taking seriously. Casa Negra's partnership with GovX is personal. Service is something Veronica knows from the inside.

Mayra Sinohui

Co-Founder & Creative Director

Mayra Sinohui — Co-Founder & Creative Director. Mayra was born in Tijuana and grew up between two cultures, two languages, and two ideas of what beauty could be. She spent over two decades in luxury beauty and fragrance — Chanel, Byredo, Diptyque, Parfums de Marly, Giorgio Armani Beauty — before

turning the knowledge inward and building something of her own. The creative direction of Casa Negra comes from that history, and from further back: her grandmother's hands, her family's eye for quality, the specific

warmth of a Mexican household that knew how to make a space feel like something. Mayra's work is, at its core, an act of translation — between heritage and modernity, between memory and scent.

Casa Negra Founders

Two women. Three decades. Everything they've carried — poured into four candles, housed in

matte black concrete, crafted for the spaces that matter most.
